Artist statement

I place myself in a kirana store doing the routine task of writing inventory, with the multicolored stock in jars forming the background. This work parallels the earlier portrait of me surrounded by bangles. Here, the fate of the (bangle-less) woman is shaped by her labor rather than by the color of bangles she chooses to wear.
