Artist statement

I frame myself within a jharokha filled with floral motifs drawn from miniature painting traditions. These images often presented women as ornamental figures (nayikas) made for viewing, and I place my own body inside that visual structure to confront it. The frame is decorative, but the figure is not, which allows the space to be held by a contemporary self rather than an idealized one.
